I’ve never been a hockey player myself but I’m definitely a fan. I’d go so far as saying I’ve tried to play, but actually classifying my actions as “playing” might be a different story. Haha. Thankfully there are many people who are amazingly talented at hockey! So even though I can’t be impressive, I can be impressed by the athletes who do it right. Luckily for Saskatchewan this year’s World Jr. Hockey championship was held here. Two cities, my home town, Regina and S’toon welcomed some of the best young players from around the world to play for gold. I think that’s what is so deadly about watching any competitive sport. It can be inspiring, and usually fires me up to do something myself.

Where did a new year sneak up from? It Feels like only a year ago we were all freaking out about Y2K and ringing in the new millennium. It’s a new year and that means a fresh start, big plans, and resolutions of course! I’ve made and shall we say graciously abandoned many resolutions myself. Usually involving working out and getting in shape. This year there will be no resolution. Instead this January 1, 2010 will mark the first day in a gradual endeavor towards a lifestyle change. I get to do so much browsing and explore so many different things with my job I just keep finding things I want to impact! There is a lot of sketchy stuff going on out there that I was not aware of. It was kinda starting to get me down. But then I finally came across something that made me say to myself “heck ya!” Canada chose November 20th as National Child Day because it celebrates the day both the Declaration on the Rights of the Child (1959) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) were adopted. As the world gets smaller because of technology one basic right of children is being lost. The Right to Play! The video that really inspired me write this blog is a Master Card commercial. The message is: When children play, the world wins. I couldn’t agree more and I love to play to this day!

This past weekend the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) hosted their annual conference. In partnership with Saskatchewan in motion brought Farley Flex to Saskatchewan to speak as one of the key notes. He posed some very good questions. Do you ever stop and really ask yourself what makes you make choose to live the way you do? Or are you simply swept up in whirl wind of life set out before you? In a few more eloquent words he said that your life is not your own and you leave no legacy if you don’t know why you make the choices you do. Sometimes we can convince ourselves we are covering all the bases. We say, “heck ya, I’ve got this cased”. He’s very good at making you want to run out of the building and make something happen! I’ve found the same thing from other people in the past, but when you try to go and do something you find yourself going – - great, but how? Farley was awesome cuz he tells you! He makes things uncomplicated that otherwise seem so twisted. With all this beauty and simplicity he is also realistic.
