posted by: Kenji category: Active in Nature, Sport

I am an extreme sports kinda girl. I’m working on building some skills of my own in a few of them. Until then I love, love, love to watch, so the men’s half pipe at the Olympics was a treat.
Don’t ask me to explain the names of the tricks or the scoring system. All I [...]

Scoop by Scoop Snow Shoveling

In honor of the blizzard Saskatchewan just had, I thought I’d whip up a little something about the shoveling we’re all going to have to do. I had just finished my workout for the day when I decided to tackle the snow pile. By the time I was done clearing a path out to the world, the shoveling had been a more intense work out than the weights I had done. Every year shoveling always used to sneak up and wreck my back for a couple weeks when we’d get a good snow. After a few years in a row of that I learned my lesson. So here are my Snow Relocation Tips!

Boxing Day=Snow Day!

posted by: Kenji category: Active in Nature, Family, Healthy Living, Sport

So typically when one hears tobogganing they think kids, and that’s partly true but with my family the adults go wild with it. The brother slide, the sister slide, how many can squash on the sled, how many people high can we go, oh ya, it gets crazy! Once we get our competitive juices going we take it up a notch from sledding to mostly.. touch snow football! All in all the day is about all of us being together! Running around and being active just enhances the fun we have together.

Does COP 15 affect physical activity?

posted by: Kenji category: Active Transportation, Active in Nature, Environment, Sport

Physical Activity has basic requirements. Ultimately you need a reason to do it, a nourished and hydrated body, and finally a space to get er’ done. We need our environment so we can be active in nature. At the same time, there are a lot of things we can do to be active that are not only good for our bodies, they’re good for the environment too.

Right to Play

posted by: Kenji category: Active in Nature, Empowerment, Leadership

I get to do so much browsing and explore so many different things with my job I just keep finding things I want to impact! There is a lot of sketchy stuff going on out there that I was not aware of. It was kinda starting to get me down. But then I finally came across something that made me say to myself “heck ya!” Canada chose November 20th as National Child Day because it celebrates the day both the Declaration on the Rights of the Child (1959) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) were adopted. As the world gets smaller because of technology one basic right of children is being lost. The Right to Play! The video that really inspired me write this blog is a Master Card commercial. The message is: When children play, the world wins. I couldn’t agree more and I love to play to this day!

Today is a really exciting day. It is blog Action day! This day was created to ignite a discussion. Bloggers from around the world take one day to focus on a single issue. This effectively changes the global conversation on the web and refocuses attention on an important issue. I think now more than ever the focus is where is should be, on climate change. The simple truth is, if you live on this planet you impact it. Ultimately through all my searching I realized that no issue stands alone. Physical Inactivity has its way of contributing to the global climate crisis.

Whenever I can I spend time outside I do. There’s always mysterious potential and a sense of freedom in nature. That’s why I was so amped to discover that today October 13, is the second annual No Child Left Inside Day! There are a variety of organizations and motivations behind this day of celebration. One reason is a book written by Richard Louv called “Last Child in the Woods:Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder”. His booked stoked the fire behind a fascinating concept-the disconnect between the children and youth of today and nature.
